Greetings wanderer,
Chances are, you might be confused about masculinity these days.
Is it a social invention designed to oppress many for the benefit of a few? Is it a toxic flaw in the character of men? Is it dangerous inherently harmful, and needing to be dissolved?
Or is masculinity a noble inheritance from the primordial patterns of nature & the collective unconscious? Is it an achievement and a necessary gift for the tempest of these times?
I’ve spent the last decade exploring these questions and more, and I’ve come to believe…
Masculinity becomes toxic when bereft of true mentorship, rites of passage, and life-affirming culture.
And that’s good news, because it means it’s possible to co-create a regenerative masculinity once again.
Masculinity needs the right soil to flourish.
Many cultures have, and continue to look to the realms of mythology & ritual to guide and initiate the vast energies of power, eros, and the sacred.
In this spirit, The Mythic Masculine is a multi-facated ecosystem that includes a Podcast, Immersive Events & Online Courses that aims to realign men & masculinity with their necessary and inherent place in the web of all our relations.
Listen to an remixed excerpt from the interview Thriving Life & A Prayer for All Men with Pat McCabe…
Hi, I’m Ian MacKenzie.
I’m a filmmaker & writer who founded The Mythic Masculine in late 2019 after stumbling upon Robert Bly’s Iron John & the echoes of the mythopoetic men’s movement.
This has been a deeply personal journey as well as a gift to the polarization that plagues much of the conversation on masculinity today.
